Trusted Civic Briefing

Editorial policy

Trusted Civic Briefing aims to make civic subjects clearer without overstating what is known. We use careful wording, give readers enough context to follow an explanation and distinguish editorial work from material produced with partners.

Accuracy and context

We check names, descriptions and factual statements against suitable sources before publication, and take care not to present an example as a universal rule. Explanations should make their scope clear and avoid implying that civic arrangements are identical everywhere. When information is uncertain or an interpretation is disputed, we say so in the wording rather than smoothing away the distinction.

Independence and partner material

Editorial decisions and conclusions remain the responsibility of the publication. A partnership does not purchase an editorial endorsement or determine the conclusions of independent coverage. Any paid, supplied or otherwise partner-supported material is labelled clearly so readers can distinguish it from independent editorial work. Partner placements are identified where they appear.

Corrections and illustrations

We review credible correction requests and amend material when a factual error is established, making the nature of a significant correction clear to readers. Some illustrations may be generated with artificial intelligence; such images are identified when used, and are not presented as documentary evidence.
